This meant getting as many settlers as possible and if you weren't working your land it could be given to someone else. It should be noted that the goal in New France was to make the colony profitable for France. Marin sold this property with three arpents of frontage, "from the stream that separates the cleared field of the Reverend Fathers Recollects from the deserted property formerly of a Jacques Caumont." He claimed that he received it from the company of New France and the Recollects when they returned to Quebec in 1670, claimed the property belonged to them. There was a bit of a dispute over Marin's land on the Saint Charles River. Hayot kept the farm and Boucher took a choice lot next to Olivier Le Tardif. Just imagine our ancestor knew the founder of Quebec! It states, "I give to Marin, mason, living near the house of the Recollect Fathers, the last suit that I had made with material from the store." The gift of clothing was highly prized in this young colony where the wait for ordinary supplies could be very long. Except that following the death of explorer Samuel de Champlain on Decemonly one year after Marin arrived in New France he was mentioned in Champlain's will. She and Marin immigrated in 1634 but there is no mention of the family for the first few years of their new life together.
